What will I learn?

On this four week course you will learn skills in pinching, coiling, slab-building and throwing on the potters' wheel to make a collection of mugs, bowls, Jugs and vases. You will also have the opportunity to explore surface decoration techniques using coloured slips, texturing tools and carving. Sessions are taught through demonstration and one to one tuition with plenty of time for practice and experimentation. Over four weeks you will learn to discover and explore your own creative abilities through the expression of clay. This course is a great introduction to pottery while also giving students with more experience opportunities to build on their existing skills.

What will I take home?

On this course you will choose your best six pieces to glaze and fire in the kiln. Your work will be ready for collection from the studio three weeks after our last session.

Who will teach me?

Rachel Cox has both a First Class Degree in Ceramics and a Masters in Ceramics from the Royal College Art. She is also a qualified teacher with extensive experience having taught and managed ceramics departments in various Arts Colleges across London. Rachel has also studied and practiced ceramics within institutions in Poland, Hungary, and Spain. With almost two decades of working in the industry she has a deep knowledge of ceramic techniques and practices.

What does the price of this course include?

You will be taught in Rachel Cox’s modern studio with the latest ceramic tools and equipment in a small group of up to four students. Small groups ensure greater individual focus from your teacher and higher levels of student and teacher group engagement. You will have access to a range of materials, which will be charged at an additional cost. Your work will be weighed before it goes into the kiln and priced at £4.00 per kg, which includes the cost of clay, slip, glaze and two firings in an electric kiln up to temperatures of 1260 degrees. An apron will be provided by the studio. There is also a bike lock up and private parking onsite available to students.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?

Group sizes are small and workshops are booked to capacity so please ensure that you are able to attend your course on the dates listed above. Workshops are non-refundable once the course has started. Should you need to cancel the course, you may do so up to 14 days before the start of the course when you will get a full refund minus a 10% admin fee. Any cancellations made after 14 days prior to the start date are non-refundable. You may transfer your booking onto another course up to 14 days prior to the start date when a 10% admin fee will be charged. It will not be possible to reschedule a course beyond 14 days prior to the start date and a refund cannot be offered. In the unlikely event that a class is cancelled by Rachel Cox Ceramics due to unforeseen circumstances that are out of the studio's control the class will be rescheduled at a later date or a refund for the class will be offered if the rescheduled date is not suitable.
