HAND-BUILDING WORKSHOP
2.5 Hours £65

Tutor: Rachel Cox
Group Size: 4

Monday 11am - 1.30pm
Dates Coming Soon

What will I learn?

In this workshop, you will be taught the technique of making slab-built pottery, which will include rolling slabs of clay, decorating clay with coloured slips, joining, and forming. You will also learn to make and attach a clay handle and spout. Through expert demonstration and personalised guidance, you will be supported to create your own hand-built water jug. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to explore surface decoration through textures, stamps, and carving. This immersive workshop will give you an authentic experience of learning the craft of pottery in a fully creative and supportive environment. To complete your hand-built water jug, you will choose your own colour scheme from a selection of the studio’s glazes.

What will I take home?

On this course you will make a water jug to be glaze and fired in the kiln. Your glazed work will be ready for collection from the studio three weeks later or posted to your door for a fee of £8.00.

Who will teach me?

Niamh Phillips is an experienced teacher and ceramicist based in South East London. With a degree in Ceramic Design from London’s Central Saint Martins University Niamh has a broad knowledge of ceramic techniques and processes. Alongside her own professional ceramic practice she works in a number of studios and colleges around London; Niamh has a passion for teaching and enjoys passing on her skills to others.

What does the price of this course include?

You will be taught in Rachel Cox’s modern studio with the latest ceramic tools and equipment in a small group of up to four students. Small groups ensure greater individual focus from your teacher and higher levels of student and teacher group engagement. You will have access to a range of clays, slips and glazes and an apron will be provided. Your pottery will be fired twice in an electric kiln up to temperatures of 1260 degrees. There is a bike lock up and private parking onsite available to students.
