POTTERY TASTER
2.5 Hours £90
Tutor: Rachel Cox
Group Size: 4
Sundays 10am or 1pm
Multiple Dates Available
What will I learn?
On this pottery taster course you will get your hands straight into a bag of clay and begin to form the material with your bare hands. You will learn the key techniques of making hand formed pottery, which include pinching, coiling and slabbing. This workshop will give you an authentic experience of what it's like to learn the craft of pottery in a creative and supportive environment. The objective of the session is the enjoyment of learning a new skill and the making itself rather than having a refined finished outcome.
What will I take home?
Learning how to make pottery involves making lots AND LOTS of mistakes along the way! The great thing about clay in its raw state is that it’s sustainable and can be recycled and reused. On this course you’ll choose your best two pots to have glazed and fired in the kiln. Your finished pieces can then be collected from the studio two weeks after your session.
Who will teach me?
Rachel Cox has both a First Class Degree in Ceramics and a Masters in Ceramics from the Royal College of Art. She is also a qualified teacher with extensive experience having taught and managed ceramics departments in various Arts Colleges across London. Rachel has also studied and practiced ceramics within institutions in Poland, Hungary, and Spain. With almost two decades of working in the industry
she has a deep knowledge of ceramic techniques and practices.
What does the price of this course include?
You will be taught in Rachel Cox’s modern studio with the latest ceramic tools and equipment in a small group of up to four students. Small groups ensure greater individual focus from your teacher and higher levels of student and teacher group engagement. You will have access to a range of clays, slips and glazes and an apron will be provided. Your pottery will be fired twice in an electric kiln up to temperatures of 1260 degrees. There is a bike lock up and private parking onsite available to all students.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Group sizes are small and workshops are booked to capacity so please ensure that you are able to attend the session on the date that you book as the taster classes are non-refundable. Should you need to change the date of your class, it will be possible to reschedule up to 14 days before when a 10% admin fee will be charged. It will not be possible to reschedule a class beyond 14 days prior to the course date and a refund cannot be offered. In the unlikely event that a class is cancelled by Rachel Cox Ceramics due to unforeseen circumstances that are out of the studio's control the class will be rescheduled at a later date or a refund for the class will be offered if the rescheduled date is not suitable.
