What will I learn?

On this three hour wheel throwing course you will get your hands straight into a bag of clay, sit on the wheel and have a go at throwing a pot on the potters' wheel. Your tutor will guide through the key steps of throwing a pot on the wheel, which include wedging, centering, pulling up, opening out and finally forming clay on the potters' wheel. This workshop will give you an authentic experience of what it's like to learn the craft of pottery in a fun and supportive environment, the objective of this session is the making itself rather than having a finished outcome. However, you will select two of your favourite pieces to have glazed and fired in the kiln. Your workshop outline can be viewed here.

What will I take home?

Learning how to make pottery on the wheel involves making lots AND LOTS of mistakes along the way! The great thing about clay in its raw state is that it’s sustainable and can be recycled and reused. On this course you will make many practice pots but you’ll choose your best two to fire in the kiln and take home.

What does the price of this course include?

You will be taught in Rachel Cox’s modern studio with the latest ceramic tools and equipment in a small group of up to four students. Small groups ensure greater individual focus from your teacher and higher levels of student and teacher group engagement. You will have access to a range of clays, slips and glazes and an apron will be provided. Your pottery will be fired twice in an electric kiln up to temperatures of 1260 degrees. There is a bike lock up and private parking onsite available to students.
